Charles Marco Diokno Manzo emigrated in 2009 and brings a perspective of two worlds when creating art in Toronto. He is a playwright, spoken word artist and educator. Manzo cultivates his art with a strong relationship with his roots and his journey of being the “Other”. Charles has his degree in Devised Theatre, B.A. Spec. Hons. from Arts Media Performance and Design at York University. He is currently pursuing his B. Ed. Intermediate/Senior Degree and soon to be legally OCT (Ontario College of Teachers) certified. His past credits include, Rover playGround 2014, Vanier College Production’s Legally Blonde: The Musical 2014, Little Black Afro Production’s Carbon Copies, Hamilton Fringe 2014, Maman Va Asal playGround 2015, I Fear(ed) playGround 2016, Carbon 2016 at Aki Studio Theatre, Wolf playGround 2017, “REM” DTFestival. InspiraTO’s Director’s Toolbox, I Love You-by Nina Ki, 2017. His current works are with: Canadian Stage: Territorial Tales 2017, Territorial Tales Tour Northern Ontario, Tarragon Theatre’s Young Playwright’s Unit (2017 – 2018), Scarborough Arts Playwright’s Unit 2019. The stories that he focuses on are bringing a voice to those who are dealing with Trauma and who are in their own path of healing.
